Reskilling

Reskilling involves training employees to acquire new skills that allow them to move into a different role than the one they currently hold.

Reskilling is often used when certain roles become obsolete or change significantly due to automation or organizational transformation. It allows companies to redeploy internal talent rather than resorting to layoffs or external recruitment.

Difference between upskilling and reskilling

Upskilling: developing skills to stay effective in a similar role.

Reskilling: acquiring skills to transition into a new role or function.

Benefits of reskilling

Reskilling supports internal mobility, reduces recruitment costs, and strengthens an organization’s ability to adapt to labour market changes. It can also prevent firings when roles become obsolete.
